The procurement process.

The procurement process connects a business requirement to a managed supplier outcome. It includes defining the need, choosing the market route, evaluating suppliers, negotiating and contracting, ordering, receiving, paying and managing performance.

The route should be proportionate to the value, risk and complexity of the purchase. An existing approved contract may be the right route for a repeat purchase. A new or high-risk requirement may need market research, competition, due diligence and a more detailed approval process.

The process continues after signature. Someone must own delivery, contractual obligations, supplier performance and the decision to renew or exit. A clear handoff is more useful than an extra approval that changes nothing.
