Supplier management in procurement.

Supplier management is the work of selecting, onboarding, monitoring and developing suppliers so their goods and services deliver the agreed business outcome. It combines performance, commercial obligations, risk and the relationship itself.

Start with the importance of the supplier and the consequences of failure. Use proportionate onboarding checks, a named owner, agreed performance measures and an escalation route. A critical production supplier needs a different review from a low-risk routine purchase.

A useful supplier review leads to a decision or an action. Record the performance issue, evidence, owner and deadline. Connect risk signals to continuity planning, and revisit whether the relationship should be renewed, changed or ended.
