Amazon Business can give employees a convenient buying channel while procurement retains rules and visibility. The useful question is where those controls operate, which purchases they govern and what happens when a buyer chooses something outside the policy.

Vendor at a glance

What is Amazon Business? Amazon's business-buying offer, combining product selection with purchasing tools. This assessment uses the current UK offer, including buying policies, approvals, reporting and procurement-system connections. AWS Marketplace is a separate product scope. Amazon Business UK.

What procurement job does it serve? Routine business buying and tail-spend purchasing. WOP classifies the scope as procure-to-pay, primarily execution, with workflow/control and record roles overlapping. That is a judgement about the assessed buying channel, not a claim that it replaces a complete procurement suite.

What controls are available? Preferred, restricted and blocked product or seller policies, plus approval workflows. A restriction alone warns the buyer but does not stop purchase; an approval workflow can be added. A block prevents purchase. General Guided Buying and Approvals are described as available to all business customers, with additional policies tied to Prime Business. Policies and approvals.

What does paid packaging change? The UK Prime Business page lists Basic at £95 a year excluding VAT for up to five users, with Spend Visibility and enhanced Guided Buying. It lists Unlimited at £4,500 a year excluding VAT, including blocking certain purchasing behaviour. Those are vendor-plan prices checked on 11 October 2026, not WOP membership prices or a guarantee of eligibility. Current UK plans.

What customer data is published? Capita's case describes an introduction in September 2020. Within the first six months, it reports over £225,000 in procurement-process cost reductions, 32% savings on 12,800 headsets and purchasing time falling from 17 days to three days. These are separate, historical, vendor-published customer measures. Capita case.

How does it connect to existing systems? Punchout starts in the procurement system, takes buyers to Amazon Business and returns the cart for approval. Other advertised routes include Punch-in, integrated search and SSO. Exact support depends on the customer's connection. Punchout, Integration options.
