Vendor at a glance
What is AWS Marketplace? A buying channel for third-party software, data and services, with subscription, billing and governance tools around the catalogue. This assessment covers Marketplace's procurement functions, rather than the whole AWS cloud platform or the performance of every seller's product.
Who uses it? Software procurement, cloud platform teams, finance and security staff in organisations buying through AWS accounts. AWS currently advertises more than 25,000 products, 70 categories and 6,000 sellers. These are AWS's catalogue figures, not a measure of suitability or independently verified market coverage. Procurement overview.
What can it do? Buyers can compare listings, subscribe to software and receive privately negotiated pricing and licence terms. Private Marketplace lets administrators curate approved products for particular accounts or business units. Vendor Insights assembles participating sellers' security information. Buyer guide, governance overview.
A useful control boundary: AWS documents that Private Marketplace does not stop use of existing subscriptions or control everything deployed in an AWS account. Its approval list therefore should not be mistaken for a complete inventory of approved software in use. Private Marketplace documentation.
Customer evidence: In an AWS-published 2020 Spireon case, the company's IT leader describes accepting private offers within minutes and simplifying vendor transactions. The same story reports faster reporting from Snowflake and faster releases from Harness; those are results of the purchased products, not proof that Marketplace itself produced those technical improvements. Spireon case.
Research basis: Public product documentation and vendor-published customer evidence, checked 11 October 2026. WOP has not tested a subscription or deployed a product. Members receive our assessment against all eight WOP criteria, including the gap between catalogue approval, contract acceptance and deployment control.
