The Wire is wop.'s short-take format. One story from the procurement-AI field, the wop. read on what it actually means, and a single signal to watch. The press release is linked at the bottom if you want the rest.

What happened. Coupa acquired Tonkean, an agentic intake and orchestration platform, just over a week after acquiring Rossum.

What it actually means. Rossum was the document layer. Tonkean is the front door. That matters because procurement does not usually break at the clean, downstream workflow stage. It breaks earlier, when someone in the business has intent, does not know where to go, and either emails procurement, asks in Slack, or bypasses the process entirely. Tonkean has been working on that messy layer for years. Not just prettier forms. The orchestration layer exists before the requisition.

What to watch. Whether Coupa can turn Rossum plus Tonkean into one coherent intake-to-execution layer, or whether the acquisition logic ends up cleaner than the user experience.
