Coupa at a glance

What it does: Coupa offers a broad spend-management suite. This assessment covers procurement, intake and the purchasing workflow within procure-to-pay. Sourcing, invoicing, payments, treasury and supply-chain planning require their own assessments; a suite label does not establish the performance of every module. Buyer platform.

Who it serves: Procurement and finance teams managing purchasing, employees requesting goods or services, approvers and suppliers collaborating on orders.

WOP category: Procure-to-pay. Primary assessed role: workflow/control, with purchasing execution and intelligence overlap. The system responsible for approvals and purchase orders depends on the deployment.

Advertised capabilities: Guided buying, catalogues, contract-aware purchasing, approval chains, budget visibility and supplier order collaboration. The intake offering, labelled as powered by Tonkean, describes requests through Slack, Teams or email, parallel reviews and agent-driven actions. WOP has not tested those actions. Procurement, intake and orchestration.

Named customer evidence: Coupa's Hilton page displays $12 billion of spend managed and $125 million of savings. It does not provide a sufficiently defined period or savings calculation for WOP to annualise the result or calculate a savings rate. These are vendor-published customer figures. Hilton.

Concrete AI feature: August 2026 supplier-portal release notes describe document extraction to prefill a supplier form, a visible failure message and editable extracted answers. That is a documented feature description, not evidence that uploaded bank details are authentic. Supplier-portal release notes.

Pricing and scope: Public prices and a complete entitlement matrix were not established in the reviewed material. Do not assume every advertised module or agent is included in one deployment.

Research basis: Public-source desk research, 11 October 2026, using the WOP assessment methodology. No WOP hands-on test, observed demo or independent customer-outcome validation.
